Devices and permissions
Allow camera and microphone access in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and choose your devices.

How permissions work
Browsers only give a site your camera and microphone after you allow it. Nook asks on the pre-join screen. If you said no earlier, or the browser blocked the request, the pre-join screen explains what happened and how to fix it.
Note
Chrome and Edge
- Select the site controls icon at the start of the address bar.
- Set Camera and Microphone to Allow.
- Reload the page.
Firefox
- Select the permissions icon in the address bar (a camera or microphone with a line through it).
- Remove the Blocked entries for camera and microphone.
- Reload the page and choose Allow when Firefox asks. Tick “Remember this decision” to avoid being asked every time.
Safari on Mac
- Open Safari → Settings → Websites.
- Under Camera and Microphone, set this site to Allow or Ask.
- Reload the page.
Safari on iPhone and iPad
- In the address bar, open the page settings menu and choose Website Settings.
- Set Camera and Microphone to Allow or Ask.
- If that doesn’t help, open the Settings app, find Safari and check the Camera and Microphone options there.
On iPhone and iPad, only one app can use the camera at a time, and the call pauses your camera while you switch to another app.
Operating system settings
Your computer can block the browser itself:
- macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and Microphone. Turn your browser on, then restart it.
- Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and Microphone. Allow desktop apps to use them.
Choosing devices
Pick your camera, microphone and speakers on the pre-join screen or during a call from the device menus. Nook remembers your choice on this device if you allow preference cookies.
In Settings → Devices you can choose to join muted or with the camera off, mirror your own video, and turn noise suppression, echo cancellation and automatic gain on or off.
