Joining a call

Open a link, check your camera and mic on the pre-join screen, and step in.

Invite links look like /j/abc-defg-hjk on this server’s address. Open the link in a current browser on your computer or phone. You can also type a meeting code into the join box on your dashboard.

The pre-join screen

Before anyone can see or hear you, Nook shows a preview of your camera, a live level meter for your microphone and menus to pick your camera, microphone and speakers. You can test your speakers with a short sound.

  • Turn your microphone or camera off before joining if you prefer to start quietly.
  • If you’re not signed in, type the name others will see.
  • Your browser asks for permission to use the camera and microphone the first time. See Devices and permissions if it doesn’t.

If you can’t get in

The meeting’s settings decide who can join. Nook tells you exactly what’s going on instead of failing silently:

  • Waiting room — a host lets you in. Keep the tab open; you join as soon as you’re admitted.
  • Sign-in required — this meeting is only for people with a Nook account.
  • Invite only — ask the organizer to add you.
  • Locked — the hosts closed the room. Ask a host to unlock it.
  • Invalid invite — the link was replaced. Ask for a new one.
  • Full — the room has reached its limit. Try again when someone leaves.

In the call

The control bar at the bottom has your microphone, camera, screen sharing, raise hand, reactions, chat, the participant list and Leave. Switch between gallery and speaker view from the layout menu.

Leaving only takes you out of the call. The call keeps going for everyone else unless a host ends it.
