Privacy and your data

What Nook stores, cookies and consent, and how to export or delete your data.

On this page

What Nook stores

  • Your account: name, email and a password hash (never the password itself).
  • Your settings, contacts and notifications.
  • Meetings you organize or are invited to, chat messages and who attended which call.
  • If you link messaging service: your messaging service user id, chat id and username.

Nook has no recording feature. Audio and video pass through the media server and are not stored. IP addresses are only kept as keyed hashes for rate limiting and session security.

Encryption

Connections to Nook use https when the server is set up that way, and call media is encrypted in transit to the media server. Calls are not end-to-end encrypted: the media server processes audio and video to route them to others. See Security for details.

Cookies and consent

Necessary cookies keep you signed in and make calls work. Preferences (remembered theme, devices, detected language) and diagnostics (anonymous call-quality reports) are optional and stay off until you accept them.

Change your choice any time with . The Cookie Policy lists every cookie.

Export your data

In Settings → Privacy & data, press Download to save a JSON file (nook-data- and the date) with your profile, settings, meetings, contacts, notifications, chat messages, messaging service link and sign-in sessions. Passwords and security tokens are never included.

Delete your account

Also in Settings → Privacy & data. Deleting signs out all your sessions, removes your messaging service link, deletes the meetings you organized together with their call history and chat (members of upcoming ones are told), and deletes your contacts, notifications and settings. In meetings organized by other people, your messages stay, but your name is replaced with “Deleted user” in call records and chat. The shared sample account can’t be deleted.

The Privacy Policy explains retention and your rights in full.

Signed-in devices

Settings → Security lists the browsers where you’re signed in. Sign out of any of them, or all at once.
